THREE NANOSATELLITE MILESTONES. A POLICY PROCESS UNDERWAY.
The program story starts from real Sri Lankan engineering milestones already documented by ACCIMT, then looks forward to a more unified mission portfolio.
ACCIMT describes RAAVANA-1 as Sri Lanka's first nanosatellite and first satellite built by Sri Lankan engineers. It was deployed from the ISS in June 2019 and operated for 27 months.
ACCIMT was one of five partners in the 6U KITSUNE project, deployed from the ISS in March 2022. The satellite carried six research and experimental missions.
ACCIMT describes BIRDS-X Dragonfly as Sri Lanka's third nanosatellite, collaboratively developed with Kyutech and carried to the ISS in August 2025.
Sri Lanka's Cabinet approved appointing an expert committee to formulate a National Space Policy covering cooperation, governance, obligations, treaties and standards.
DON'T START WITH A SATELLITE. START WITH THE NATIONAL OUTCOME.
Choose the capability line, maturity and desired outcome. The front-end planner routes the mission to the right program office and forces a useful question: what problem are we solving, who will use the result, and what capability remains in Sri Lanka afterward?
ACCIMT ALREADY DESCRIBES A SPACE-TECHNOLOGY CAPACITY-DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.
ACCIMT's current BIRDS-X Dragonfly page identifies a Sri Lankan Programme for Space Technology Capacity Development and frames Dragonfly as a continuation of RAAVANA-1 and KITSUNE. This site uses that real history as evidence that a mission portfolio can be organized around capability development rather than one-off events.
THE 2026 NATIONAL SPACE POLICY PROCESS CREATES A NATURAL ROADMAP MOMENT.
Cabinet's May 18, 2026 decision says Sri Lanka needs a unified national framework for space technology and its applications. This OFFICIAL program can serve as a public-facing mission roadmap and private collaboration layer without claiming to be the government policy body itself.
THE LION WITH THE SWORD LEADS THE PROGRAM.
Every Sri Lanka/Lanka-related and Mars-related branch in this project must prominently feature the lion animal holding a sword as much as practical. For Sri Lanka Space Program, the lion is the central mission emblem inside the master seal and portfolio map, and it should continue into mission patches, engineering badges, program reports, team gear and presentation systems.
